What a Locksmith Costs in Oklahoma City
No price list here, because a price list without seeing the door is a guess. What you get instead is what actually moves the number, and how to make sure the figure you are quoted is the figure you pay.

Why We Do Not Publish a Price List
Two calls that sound identical on the phone can be very different jobs at the door. A published number either overcharges one of them or underquotes the other.
A rekey is a rekey, until it is four doors on three different brands of hardware, one of which is too worn to hold a pinning.
That is the ordinary reality of the work, and it is why a figure quoted before anyone has described the job is either padded to cover the unknowns or about to change on arrival. Neither is good for you.
What works instead is a short description on the phone followed by a firm number. How many doors. What kind of lock. The year, make and model if it is a car. Whether any key still works. Three or four answers is normally enough to give a price that holds, and if it is not, you are told what would need to be seen first.
The commitment that matters is not the number itself. It is that the number quoted before dispatch is the number on the invoice, and that any condition discovered on site is explained and agreed before work continues.
What moves the number
The Three Things That Drive Every Quote
Labour and Skill
Time on site, and the difficulty of the task. Opening a standard residential knob and opening a high security cylinder without damage are not the same hour of work, even if both are described as a lockout on the phone.
Hardware
Rekeying uses almost none. Replacement uses a lot, and the grade decides how much. A Grade 1 commercial deadbolt and a builder grade residential one differ by several multiples. Car keys sit here too, since a proximity fob is a piece of electronics rather than a piece of metal.
Distance and Timing
A trip fee may apply beyond a set distance from Edmond, and it is stated on the phone rather than discovered on the invoice. Work inside 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM is standard. Outside those hours response is limited and priced accordingly, which you are told before deciding.
By job type
What Sits Where on the Scale
Relative positions rather than figures. Where your job lands within each band is what the phone call establishes.
Rekeying
Among the least expensive things a locksmith does per door, because it is labour rather than hardware. See house rekeying.
Lockouts
Modest for standard hardware, rising with the difficulty of the lock and with distance. Damage free opening is the default, not an upgrade.
Deadbolt Installation
Driven by the grade of hardware chosen and whether the door needs boring. The strike reinforcement is included, not extra.
Smart Locks
Hardware is the bulk of it, and it varies widely by model. Supply your own and you pay for the fitting and setup only.
Car Keys
Widest range of anything here. A mechanical key for an older vehicle and a proximity fob for a new one are not in the same league.
Master Key Systems
Priced per door plus the design. Compatible existing cylinders keep it down. Mixed hardware pushes it up.
Exit Devices
Hardware dominated, with fire rated and vertical rod devices at the upper end. Alignment work is often the cheaper fix.

How to Make Sure the Quote Holds
Ask if it is the total
Callout, labour and parts, all included. A figure that quietly covers only the callout is the mechanism behind almost every price that triples on the doorstep.
Ask for a license number
Oklahoma licenses locksmiths through the Department of Labor. Someone who will not give a number is telling you what kind of invoice to expect. See licensing.
Describe the job properly
Door count, lock type, vehicle details, whether a key still works. Vague descriptions produce vague quotes, and vague quotes are the ones that move.
Treat the outlier as a warning
Quotes from legitimate operators land near each other. One that is far below the rest is not a bargain, it is a hook. See spotting a scam.
Expect to be asked for ID
A locksmith who opens doors without checking is not one whose invoice you want to argue over. Being asked is a good sign, not an inconvenience.
Batch the work
The first door carries the callout and the rest are cheaper. Doing all the doors in one visit costs less than two visits for the same doors.

Is the phone quote the final price?
Yes, provided the job is as described. The only thing that changes it is a condition that could not have been known in advance, such as a seized cylinder or a split frame, and in that case you are told and asked before any further work happens rather than presented with it afterwards.
Do you charge a callout fee?
A trip fee may apply beyond a set distance from Edmond. Where it does, the amount is stated on the phone before anyone sets off. It does not appear for the first time on the invoice.
Why are car keys so much more expensive than house keys?

Is it cheaper to rekey or to replace?
Rekeying, almost always, because you are paying labour rather than buying hardware. Replacement is the right call when the lock is worn, damaged, or was never adequate for an exterior door. See rekey versus replace.
Why did another locksmith quote so much less?
Sometimes because they are a smaller operator with lower overhead, which is legitimate. More often, when the gap is large, because the figure quoted is not the total and the rest arrives once someone is standing at your door. Ask whether the quote includes callout, labour and parts, and ask for a license number.
