Neighborhoods like Del City, Midwest City and the near northeast side of OKC have a high concentration of homes built in the 1960s through the 1980s. Those door frames are often single layer wood rather than composite, with original strike plates held in by three quarter inch screws. A single kick transfers all of that force straight into the frame.
Here is what most homeowners do not realise about that damage. The frame can look intact from the outside while the interior wood has separated entirely at the stud line. What I Look For Walking Into a Break In Scene
The first 90 seconds at a break in scene tell me exactly what the door needs.

I have been doing this since 2018 in the OKC metro and I can tell within seconds how the entry happened. The damage pattern is different for a kick in, a pry attack and a drilled cylinder. Each one needs a different repair sequence.
On a kicked in door, which is the most common call I get, the frame is split at the strike plate. The plate itself is still mounted but the screws have pulled clean through the wood. The cylinder may be perfectly fine. The throw bolt may never have been touched. None of that matters if the frame has no structural integrity left.
So the first thing I do is close the door and watch the gap at the latch point. If I see daylight, or the door sits proud of the frame, the frame gets work before anything else is replaced. I carry frame repair materials on every call for exactly this reason.
Then I check the strike plate. A standard residential plate uses three quarter inch to one inch screws, and those go into drywall and thin trim wood rather than into the stud behind it. A reinforced plate with three inch screws anchoring into the stud changes the entire kick in resistance profile of the door. Once the frame is solid and the plate is upgraded, we talk about the cylinder. Even if it was undamaged, I replace it. The security history is unknown. Anyone who had access before the event, or during it, potentially had time with that cylinder. A fresh cylinder with new keys closes that off completely.
The last thing I assess before I leave is every other accessible entry point on the property. A walk round of all the doors and windows to find what else is weak is part of every break in call. Not a sales pitch. Part of the job.
Undamaged Locks Still Get Assessed
An undamaged lock on a compromised house still needs to be evaluated.
This comes up on nearly every break in call. The back door lock is fine. The garage entry lock is fine. Forced entry through one door often means the intruder moved through the house, and any lock that was potentially touched or manipulated during that time has an unknown security status.
You get a clear answer on each one: replace, rekey, or leave as is, based on the actual evidence at that door. Each call is judged on what that entry point needs to be secure tonight.

No exceptions for an undamaged cylinder at a breach point. The security history is unknown, so it gets replaced.

Door and Frame Diagnostics
We arrive, read the damage pattern and identify the breach method. Frame condition, strike plate integrity, cylinder status and door alignment are all checked before any hardware is chosen. The entry point is documented and the secondary doors and windows are assessed.
Hardware Replacement
Frame repair comes first, and a split frame is stabilised before anything is mounted. The strike plate is replaced with a reinforced plate on three inch stud anchoring screws, the deadbolt with a Grade 1 unit and a one inch minimum throw, and the cylinder with a fresh unit and keys cut on site. Alignment is tested under hand pressure.
Load Testing Before We Leave
We test the throw under resistance, not just key operation. The door is closed, the bolt extended, and lateral pressure applied to confirm the plate is holding against the stud. If anything moves it gets addressed before we go. You watch the test.
